Item Los bosques del espinal periestépico en las proximidades de la localidad de Coronda, provincia de Santa Fe (Argentina)(UNR Editora, 2006) Lewis, Juan Pablo; Pire, Eduardo Félix; Barberis, Ignacio; Prado, DariénEl Espinal Periestépico, que rodea a la estepa pampeana por el suroeste, oeste y norte, consiste en bosques y sabanas de Prosopis, Acacia, Celtis y Geoffroea. En la provincia de Santa Fe su área se ha contraído y fragmentado como consecuencia directa e indirecta de la acción del hombre. En su reseña sobre el viaje hasta Santa Fe realizado en 1833, Charles Darwin señaló la existencia de bosques de 'mimosas' próximos a Coronda. Estos nunca fueron descriptos ni analizados y su existencia está hoy seriamente comprometida. En este trabajo se describen y analizan estos remanentes de bosques y otros cercanos a las localidades de San Agustín y Matilde. En seis transectas de 200 m2 se registraron 204 individuos (1700 individuos/ha > a 1 cm diámetro a la altura del pecho; dap) de 11 especies leñosas, de las cuales Celtis tala, Geoffroea decorticans y Prosopis alba son las más abundantes. La composición específica es similar entre ellos, pero existen diferencias cuantitativas respecto a la abundancia y al área basal. La regeneración del bosque es escasa (promedio: 700 individuos/ha < 1 cm dap) y las especies con mayor abundancia de renovales son Geoffroea decorticans y Acacia caven. En las áreas más abiertas, el sotobosque herbáceo es bastante denso y está dominado por especies de las familias Poaceae, Asteraceae y Solanaceae. Aunque el peligro no es inminente, estos bosques enfrentan el riesgo de su degradación por la invasión de especies exóticas.
