El sitio arqueológico de Antumpa presenta evidencias de ocupación que abarcan un rango
de entre 3000 y 500 años a.p. El presente trabajo está orientado a determinar los eventos y
procesos que modificaron el paisaje, con especial énfasis en los períodos de ocupación del
yacimiento. El área de estudio se caracteriza por geoformas deposicionales compuestas por
sedimentos semiconsolidados a inconsolidados, de edad Pleistoceno a actuales. Las distintas
unidades, que funcionan como indicadores paleoecológicos, incluyen terrazas de acumulación
fluvial, derrubios y turba. El relevamiento de los depósitos arrojó fechados basales de
5480 ±80 y 4870 ±70 a.p., lo que permite relacionar las secuencias locales con aquellas estudiadas
por Jorge Fernández en la zona de Azul Pampa, similares sedimentológicamente, que
cuentan con una serie de fechados radiocarbónicos entre 5000 y 1800 años a.p. El análisis
de estos depósitos permitió desarrollar un esquema multitemporal que muestra la historia
evolutiva del paisaje local y su relación con las ocupaciones de Antumpa. Este ordenamiento
de los depósitos sedimentarios y su posterior correlación con la ocupación del sitio, permitió
elaborar un modelo predictivo para el norte de la Quebrada de Humahuaca utilizado para la
identificación hallazgos arqueológicos.
The Antumpa archaeological site presents evidence of occupation covering a range between 3000 and 500 years BP. This study is designed to determine the events and processes that modified the landscape, with special emphasis on the periods of occupation of the site. The study area is characterized by depositional landforms composed of unconsolidated sediments, Pleistocene age to current. The different units that function as paleoecological indicators include fluvial terraces accumulation, debris and peat. The survey showed deposits dated to 5480 ±80 and 4870 ±70 BP, allowing to relate the local sequences to those studied by Jorge Fernández in the Azul Pampa area, which show similar characteristics and have a number of radiocarbon dates between 5000 and 1800 years BP. Analysis of these deposits allowed to develop a multitemporal scheme showing the evolutionary history of the local landscape and its relationship with Antumpa´s human occupations. This ordering of the sedimentary deposits and subsequent correlation with the occupation of the site, allowed to develop a predictive model for the northern Humahuaca valley used to identify archaeological finds.
