dc.description | Drawing from statistical evidence pointing to Argentina as one of the greatest consumers of postal and telegraphic traffic in the early XXth century, this article explores the system that made this intense connection with the outside world possible. Focusing on the decades between 1870 and World War I, it argues that the combination of geographic distance and political will to connect with the information poles in the northern hemisphere dictated highly ambitious policies that were sustained in the long term by the leading elites. This argument unfolds in phases, shedding light on specific dimensions of this process, such as the construction of a regional space of postal circulation in South America, as well as the integration of Argentina in the unified postal territories coordinated by the Universal Postal Union and the International Telegraphic Union. | es |
