El presente artículo tiene como objetivo analizar la historia de la inmigración sirio-libanesa en Argentina a la luz
de una perspectiva compleja acerca del mestizaje. A tal efecto, recurre a los desarrollos franceses referidos al
‘métissage’ para analizar : a) la alusión de ‘turcos’ con la que se designó a los inmigrantes llegados del Levante,
b) la naturaleza mestiza de la sociedad receptora y c) la relación que se estableció entre esta y los denominados
‘turcos’. El estudio histórico-cultural señala posibles aportes de la educación intercultural como modo de
fomentar el diálogo cultural y superar estereotipos.
This article analyzes the history of Syrian–Lebanese immigration in Argentina based on a complex perspective on crossbreeding. Bearing that in mind, the paper appeals to French authors’ theretical developments refered to ‘métissage’ in order to analyze: a) the allusion of ‘turcos’ (‘Turkish’) with which immigrants arrived from the Levant were called, b) the mixed nature of the host society, and c) the relationship established between the latter and the so called ‘Turkish’. The historical-cultural study points out possible contributions of intercultural education as a means of promoting dialogue and overcoming cultural stereotypes.
